Nearly 40 ILHS/OHP FFA students recently traveled to the Farm Science Review in London, Ohio as a group. They had the chance to meet with leaders in the agriculture industry and speak personally with members of the Farm Bureau.

In addition, ILHS FFA students recently participated in the Logan County Soils Contest and the District Soils Contest in Urbana. The rural soils judging is an educational activity designed as a practical method of teaching students to evaluate land and soil to determine its greatest safe potential use. In class, students learned about basic soil characteristics like types of soil particles, their relative size and qualities. Then from that information, students determine the practical use for given soil types. They determine slope and use the information that they know about specific soil types to determine what the ground should be used for. The teams will take part in the District Soils Contest coming up.
