Six Indian Lake High School students were chosen to attend Buckeye Girls State, originally scheduled for this month on the campus of the University of Mount Union. This year's event has been cancelled because of the Covid-19 health crisis. Officials will meet later this summer to determine if this year's representatives will be invited to go to the 2021 Buckeye Girls State assembly.
The young ladies from ILHS who were selected are:
Lainie Edens, daughter of Charity Schutte and Mike Edens of Lewistown, Kyla Martin, daughter of Shawn and Angel Martin of Belle Center, Joy Pajimula, daughter of Arrouny Sarwar of Russells Point, Mady Palmer, daughter of Kristy Page of Lakeview, Raelyn Parsell, daughter of Brian and Michelle Parsell of Bellefontaine, and Ashlyn Shaner, daughter of John and Nikki Shaner of Lewistown.
Buckeye Girls State is sponsored locally by the Charles Collins Ladies Auxiliary Post 381.
Participants must meet several qualifications.  Candidates must be juniors in high school, interested in government and current events and have an above average scholastic standing.  The young women must also demonstrate high moral character, possess strong leadership skills and have a desire for learning.
The purpose of Buckeye Girls State is to educate young women from Ohio in the duties, privileges, rights and responsibilities of good citizenship and to learn about city, county and state government.
