Indian Lake High School Key Club members are helping students at Discovery Center get the most out of a favorite activity there.
Several Key Club members volunteered to help with the Shaving Cream Ice Skating event recently. Discovery Center Preschool staff cover the padded gym floor with a tarp and spread water and shaving cream all around. The slippery surface makes for a super sensory experience.
Indian Lake Senior Christina Bowen attended Discovery Center as a child and remembers what it was like to "shaving cream ice skate" long ago. She says helping out now is even more exciting.
"I can play with the kids and see must how much fun they are having. I also got to see some of my teachers so it's been a blast."
Key Club members helped Discovery Center students who wanted to play it safe walk around the perimeter of the rink, while others swung the children around or shoved them across the floor. Discovery Center Shaving Cream Ice Skating is an annual event that allows students (and helpers) the freedom to slip and slide in a safe environment.
