ILHS CCP students are considering serious subjects when it come to the future of their health care.
Mary Rutan Hospital Director of Care Coordination Jim Schwind and local pastor Rebecca Kauffman spoke to students recently about advanced directives.
Both are members of the local Bioethics Committee that considers medical dilemmas. Schwind explained advanced directives including living wills, health care power of attorneys and do not resuscitate orders to spell out a person's wishes if a patient is incapacitated.
He said stressed that communication with your loved ones is key.
"Paperwork is one thing, but it's the conversations that are so important."
He urged students to talk with their parents and/or siblings to find out their wishes and then complete the necessary forms.
Each year this team speaks to students in the ILHS College and Career Readiness course.
