Indian Lake students who want to learn about our government and related jobs will again have the opportunity to participate in one of Ohio’s most valuable programs for young adults.
ILHS senior boys who attended Buckeye Boys State last summer spoke about their experience with this year's junior boys recently.
The week-long educational event at Miami University in June focuses on teaching students about government by creating a mini-state, with students choosing to learn and perform actual jobs at either the city, county or state level.
Last year, Cole Downs, Isaac Myers and Logan Murphy represented Indian Lake.
Cole Downs said, "It's very patriotic and there's many important guest speakers, like Governor Mike DeWine. It's interesting and fun."
Isaac Myers continued, "I used the experience to see what a campus is like and I met guys from all over Ohio.
Murphy added, "It's neat to meet guys from cities and other towns and learn their political views. I went to a party where they were just debating all kinds of issues for hours."
Buckeye Boys’ State is sponsored locally by the Huntsville American Legion Post 381 and several individuals. Interviews will take place in the next few weeks to determine this summer's selected students. Interested students should sign up in the ILHS Guidance Office.
