A longtime local CPA detailed what it takes to be a successful accountant in the latest presentation in the Career Speaker Series.
Bill Boy has been a certified public accountant since 1992, earning his degree from Bowling Green State University. He runs an office in Bellefontaine where he also offers financial planning.
Boy took time out of his busy tax season schedule to speak with ILHS College and Career Readiness students about accounting. He explained his education and the services he provides to local businesses and individuals including managing finances and preparing tax returns for clients.
He says despite several computer program that can help people with their taxes and finances, accountants will always be necessary to ensure accountability and compliance with the law.
The Career Speaker series brings in area professionals from different industries to discuss employment opportunities and educational needs with Indian Lake upperclassmen. The series is supported by the Logan County Area Chamber of Commerce and the Logan County Collaborative between industry leaders and educators.
One of our favorite local career speakers was back with more exciting news from the manufacturing sector.
Nate Titus, an ILHS alum and current Western Ohio Workforce Partnerships Lead for Honda Motor Company, presented to the College and Career Readiness classes recently.
He says these students are in a unique position because 85% of jobs are going to change because of AI technology by the year 2030.
"Recognizing that now, picking a career pathway is going to be very important because it may not exist or is may be something where you need to update your skills." He continued, "You guys are going to be pioneers in this new 2030 industry standard. Honda is one of the companies that's on the forefront of it."
Titus encouraged the students to think outside the 4-year degree box and explore the education that may be available through employment. Titus also discussed the need for young people to study engineering technology to have the ability to create or repair manufacturing equipment.
Titus is a 2004 Indian Lake High School graduate. He started out at the University of Toledo, then joined the Navy. He completed his degree from Franklin University while employed, so he has participated in all of the 3 Es.
The ILHS Career Speaker Series got started recently highlighting an industry that’s very busy with the harvest! Morgan Niedermier from Sunrise Cooperative was the first featured speaker. She explained that Sunrise Cooperative is an agricultural and energy cooperative that offers agronomy, energy, feed, grain and other products to assist farms, homes and businesses. Their careers range from internships for area FFA students to drivers, dispatchers, seasonal laborers and operations managers.
