We've only just started the second semester and already it's time to start considering the next school year. ILHS guidance counselors Greg Tuttle and Alice Weygandt met recently with members of the ILHS junior class to move toward the future and their Senior Year!
Tuttle advised students to have a few ideas of what they want to do with their life.
"You want to try to get to something that you enjoy doing because you're going to do it for the next forty years or so, until you retire. So make sure your Plan A, B and C include something that you're really passionate about."
Whether a student is considering attending a 4-year or 2-year college, joining the military or entering the workforce after graduation, the counselors explained that this is a critical time for making decisions. Tuttle encouraged the juniors to schedule a few college or company visits and suggested talking with their parents about classes and options for next school year, including College Credit Plus classes and work/study opportunities.
They also encouraged students to be aware of college application deadlines that may fall over the summer or early next fall. In addition, all ILHS juniors will be taking the ACT on February 28th during school hours.
Finally, juniors received their scheduling sheets and course booklets. They'll begin meeting individually with Mr. Tuttle and Ms. Weygandt now to set up classes and programs for Fall 2023. Students must bring to the counselor meeting their course registration booklet and a registration sheet signed by a parent.
Counselors will be meeting with underclassmen and 8th graders in the coming weeks, as well, to work on their schedules for next year.
